  • Day 1 — Machame Gate to Machame Camp

Kilimanjaro Trekking | 5-Day Mount Meru Trek

After breakfast, transfer to Machame Gate for registration and a final briefing before beginning the trek. The route ascends steadily through lush montane rainforest, home to rich birdlife and towering, moss-covered trees, before reaching Machame Camp for your first night on the mountain.

      A longer, essential acclimatization day takes you upward to Lava Tower (~15,190 ft) for lunch, giving your body time to adjust to higher altitude. After lunch, descend into the scenic Barranco Valley, following the “climb high, sleep low” principle. With ever-changing landscapes, this day offers some of the trek’s most striking and memorable views.

After reaching the top, continue trekking across ridges and valleys toward Karanga Camp. Depending on the group’s condition, an optional afternoon acclimatization hike can be undertaken.

            7-Day Machame Route

            The highlight of your 7-Day Machame Route begins shortly after midnight as you leave Barafu Camp by headlamp, ascending beneath a sky filled with stars toward the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Trek steadily across steep volcanic slopes to Stella Point (5,756 m / 18,885 ft) before continuing along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m / 19,341 ft), the highest point in Africa.

            During your 7-Day Machame Route, witness an unforgettable sunrise above the clouds, with breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro’s glaciers, volcanic crater, and the surrounding plains stretching across Tanzania and Kenya. After celebrating your incredible achievement and capturing unforgettable photographs at the iconic summit sign, begin your descent through the alpine desert back to Barafu Camp for a short rest and brunch before continuing through changing ecological zones to Mweka Camp for dinner and a well-deserved overnight stay.
