  • Day 1. Machame Gate – Machame Camp (5,380 ft → 10,200 ft)

Kilimanjaro Trekking | 5-Day Mount Meru Trek

After breakfast, transfer to Machame Gate for registration and a safety briefing. Begin your trek through lush montane rainforest, alive with birdlife and draped in moss-covered trees. The trail gradually ascends, offering scenic viewpoints along the way, before arriving at Machame Camp to rest and prepare for the next day’s climb.

    Kilimanjaro Trekking | 7-Day Machame Route

    After breakfast, leave the forest behind and enter the open moorlands. Enjoy panoramic views of Kibo Peak as the landscape shifts to heather and giant lobelias. This moderate hike allows for steady acclimatization while soaking in the expansive scenery before reaching Shira Plateau for an overnight stay.

      Today is a key acclimatization day. Ascend steadily to the dramatic Lava Tower (~15,190 ft) for lunch, giving your body essential exposure to higher altitude. Afterward, descend into the lush Barranco Valley, following the “climb high, sleep low” principle. The route offers stunning views of jagged cliffs, unique vegetation, and sweeping panoramas, making it one of the most scenic days of the trek.
